A Convicted Killer. A Buried Truth. A Lawyer with Everything to Lose.

When Savannah attorney Claire Stevens agrees to take on the appeal of Anthony Bates—a convicted serial killer—she knows the case will change her life. Anthony’s confession and trial shattered the city, sending shockwaves through its tightly-knit and tradition-bound society. But as Claire delves into the case, she uncovers glaring inconsistencies: unchallenged evidence, conflicting psychological evaluations, and a police force under immense pressure to find a scapegoat.

As Claire dives deeper, her investigation unearths dark secrets about Anthony’s case—and about her own past. Long-buried guilt resurfaces when cryptic messages begin targeting her, drawing a chilling connection between Anthony’s alleged crimes and the tragedy that altered Claire’s life forever.

Caught between her professional duty and the haunting specters of her past, Claire must untangle a web of lies and hidden motives that threaten to obscure the truth forever. The closer she gets to exposing the truth, the more she risks becoming the next victim.

For fans of legal thrillers and psychological suspense, this gripping novel explores the price of justice, the weight of guilt, and how far someone will go to uncover the truth. What secrets are you willing to live with?

I like her writing style. Although before midway through I figure out who was the culprit. I enjoyed it.

Interesting

Poorly edited. Several instances of failed continuity. The protagonist starts eating chicken but finishes eating a steak. Dinner starts at 2 pm but halfway through she steps out into the night. etc. etc.

The neon lights hum, the AC hums, even buildings hum as they settle.

The protagonist acts like an insecure child throughout.

Poorly written.

Oh, and they can't identify a former prisoner's body because the teeth are missing. What about DNA?

Haven't they heard of DNA?

I found this book a bit tedious and not as well written as others in his library. Protagonist is difficult to connect with.

Not as good as most of his books

I could not stop listening to this story. This is my first time listening to this author and it will not be my last.

Storytelling

I didn’t care for narrator. Very robotic. Storyline was SO predictable that I actually laughed as each of my predictions came true. I am so glad I didn’t have to pay for it!

Waste
