In 1587, Elinor White Dare sailed from England heavy with her first child but full of hopes. Her father, a renowned artist and experienced traveler, has convinced her and her bricklayer husband Ananias to make the journey to the New World. Land, they are promised, more goodly and beautiful than they can ever imagine. But nothing goes as planned from landing at the wrong location, to facing starvation, to the endless wait for help to arrive. And, beyond her comprehension, Elinor finds herself utterly alone....

The colony at Roanoke disappeared into the shadows of history. But, what if one survived to leave a lasting legacy?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and I am so impressed by Shannon McNear‘s writing! The history, the characters, the vivid settings and deep spiritual content made this book Breathtaking. The narrator was fine once I reduced the playback speed. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves historical fiction, especially with deep Christian content.

I would prefer a different narrator. didn't like her attempt at men's voices. otherwise I liked this presentation.

The narrator not so good, but, excellent overall.

I grew up vacationing on the OBX. I knew the history of the Lost Colony from the dramatization that is put on at the Waterfront Theater in Manteo. I stumbled across this story in searching for a new book and was pleasantly suprised! So glad I found it and will be sharing it with others who also love the great mystery of the Lost Colony, its people and the stories that came from it!

Loved it and excited to read more
