Her greatest sacrifice became her greatest legacy.

Zacharias has loved Elisabeth all his life. When negotiations are made for their marriage, the childhood friends trust that their future will be bright. But as their story unfolds in their village near Jerusalem, the life they build together is marked by both the joy of love and the sorrows of loss and longing, for as the years pass by, the steadfast couple is never blessed with the thing they desire above all: a child.

Now beyond childbearing years, it seems that the couple’s righteous desire will never be granted—until a divine promise is made, and they learn that their fate will transcend the bounds of age and mortal comprehension. Elisabeth and Zacharias are destined to play a pivotal role in the fulfillment of ancient scripture, and they soon come to understand that God’s plan is far grander than they ever dreamed.

I loved the story and how the author ascribed real life feelings. It still felt like the holy story even though Jehovah wasn't mentioned.

Truly enjoyed the story. the female narrator has a sweet soft voice. the male narrator is not emotional, no fluctuation in his voice level or tone, it was more like a computerized voice. I would read this myself due to the male narrator.

Beautiful and well written story.

I love H.B. Moore's biblical fiction—she has a way of drawing me into the story and making me feel as if I'm there. This is a tender and beautiful story about the life of a woman of great faith.

From the start, we’re drawn into the quiet love story between Zacharias and Elisabeth. They’ve known each other since childhood, and their marriage is one of genuine love and affection. As the years pass, their greatest heartbreak is the inability to have a child. What follows is a heartfelt, emotional journey through faith, disappointment, and the slow realization that God’s timing doesn’t always match our own.

Besides Elisabeth and Zacharias' devotion to each other and the Lord, what I really loved about this book is how human Elisabeth feels. She’s not a distant biblical figure here—she’s a woman who laughs, questions, hopes, and experiences heartache. You can feel her devotion to Zacharias and to God in every chapter, even in her moments of doubt. When the miracle finally comes—when she learns she’ll become the mother of John the Baptist—it feels like the fulfillment of a lifetime of faith and patience.

If you’ve ever found yourself waiting on an answered prayer or wondering if your faith is enough, this story will speak to you. It's inspiring without being preachy, emotional without being overly dramatic, and full of heart from beginning to end. I loved the dual narration and felt the narrators added to my enjoyment of this wonderful, touching story.
