Ellie doesn’t believe in magic. She believes in science.

But when her school burns down in roaring purple flames, her favourite teacher gives her mysterious Elemental Bracers, and she’s invited to join a secret society of the world’s smartest minds, Ellie realises not everything has a logical explanation…Packed with adventure, humour, and just a bit of chaos, Ellie Ment and the Material Matter is where chemistry meets courage, physics bends reality, and curiosity might just save the world.

Narrated by JENNIFER SAUNDERS — the iconic star of Absolutely Fabulous, French & Saunders, Death on the Nile, and Shrek 2.

Why Everyone Should Listen to ELLIE MENT AND THE MATERIAL MATTER:

  • STEM Adventure: Introduces children to real scientific concepts (elements, compounds, chemical reactions, quantum superposition) through thrilling, accessible storytelling.
  • Youth Empowerment: Ellie symbolises the next generation challenging the old way of doing things. The story explores the frustration and hope young people experience when confronting adult compromise.
  • The Environment: Tackles real-world issues like microplastic pollution, unsustainable industry practices, and the importance of circularity.
  • Friendship and Teamwork: Ellie and Michael's friendship highlights the importance of diverse talents—science and art, logic and creativity—working together toward a bigger goal. There isn’t just one type of ‘smart’.
  • Courage and Curiosity: The bravery to ask questions, experiment, and stand up for what’s right underpins Ellie’s journey.

A very nice book that’s suitable for all ages. A story that teaches you a lot of science and how it is applicable in our everyday life. A book also about how we can be more involve in taking care of the environment. Definitely worth listening to. The storyteller takes you on a journey of imagination. Calm voice and the tone she uses 5 out of 5

This was a wonderfully fun book! It has everything a good kids' book should have. It's funny, dramatic, exciting, and teaches kids empathy. The characters are well done, and the twists and turns of the plot will keep you wanting to read more. This is an interesting book that can teach children things even most grown-ups don't know.

Little Ellie Ment is a big bundle of sass and smarts in a kid-sized package. She loves science. Like, REALLY loves science.

Ellie is out at 2 AM in the rain, collecting samples for her experiment. She's dedicated like that. She sees her school burning down in a purple inferno, and her life is never the same.

Her favorite teacher, Ms Fialova, gives her elemental bracers that can summon elements. Her least favorite teacher is not happy about that. With these Bracers, Ellie learns a hard lesson. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, and changing the world takes more than smarts; it takes courage.

I recommend this book to anyone. It's entertaining and will make you appreciate science in a whole new way.
