Elton John is as much loved for his outrageous personality and witty outspokenness as for his music. Such shamelessness and sheer silliness rivals anything uttered by punk rockers, yet it is so typically Elton: honest and intemperate. Tragedy and heartbreak have played a large part in his life. Behind the parties, the hedonism, the lavish stage costumes, and the silly glasses lies a more somber story. Between disputes with managers, legal wranglings, public breakups, and divorce, John has been faced with not only an expanding waistline and a receding hairline but serious health problems and drug addictions.

Drawing on many firsthand interviews with his associates and musical collaborators, this intriguing story of high drama and prodigious talent traces John's astonishing journey through life as the colossus of camp, while also offering a critical history of his work and a fresh analysis of his contributions to popular music.

I knew little about Elton John, even less about how songs are recorded, arranged, and produced. This lucid, intriguing true story,, besides being fascinating taught me so much.

A very powerful music biography

From both first hand knowledge and hours of interviews David Buckley has put together an impressive Biography of Elton Johns talents, vulnerabilities, amazing philanthropy and at times downright bitchiness. Any of us could be a fan of Sir Elton John as a performer but through this biography I found myself a fan of the man himself faults and all.
Well written and read I was thoroughly engaged.

A well rounded Biography of the man and the talent

Found this book extremely boring. I love biographies, but I truly didn't enjoy this one. For me to not finish a book is definitely not the norm

my opinion

I learned a lot from this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone!

Great book!

I think this might have been a little more interesting if it were cut down to 6 to 8 hours. There was a whole lot of droning on and on in a monotone voice about ...what I really can't remember as it was just mostly boring. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I think it would have been more interesting if I learned more about the songs and why Elton wrote the songs or learned more about his relationship with Bernie, these topics were glassed over. Basically, I found this book lacking any interesting detail.

Mildly Interesting
