Emily Monroe may be a lot of things, but one thing is for sure: She is not the Chosen One.

Emily is a normal girl working at Big Burger who has the unfortunate luck to look exactly like Big City's superhero darling, the Chosen One. It has been the bane of her existence, as it disrupts her life and the lives of those around her when supervillains come knocking, wanting to prove their mettle by fighting the Chosen One. Nobody listens when she insists she isn't who they think she is.

With common sense and years of rage built up inside, she usually serves their butts to them on a platter, asking, "Did you want fries with that?"

No cape required.

So much fun it should be illegal. The perfect mix of fantasy/sci fi and snark with a touch of romance added in. Damn, 5 stars doesn't do it justice. Just listen or read. Even if you are 0.01% geek/nerd you will likey. Can't wait for the next!

I loved this book; it was a funny/silly story with a slightly serious undertone (if you stop and think about it).

The author did not dramatize the story; they kept it lighthearted, pg, and quick-paced. I will definitely read it again when I need a little pick-me-up.

To enjoy the story you need to either expect some nonsensical developments, or have a good suspension of disbelief. The plot is there, but it is speedy (think the antithesis of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time), and the characters are introduced, but the main character is the most developed; the rest are just plot-movers or fun fanservice. :)

A light-hearted superhero story with a dash of wlw

funny, easy to read and has an incredible hook for the next book. it's only problem: too short! I could read for hours!

love it

3.5 Stars. This novella was humorous and fun, and the premise was interesting. The tongue-in-cheek parallels to comic book characters amused me. However, I found most of the "big reveals" to be rather predictable. In fact I'd figured three of the largest out "secrets" by the beginning of chapter four.

That's not to say I didn't like the story. It was still an entertaining romp, full of chuckles. The narration was quite well done, and certainly added to the experience. (In fact, the narration is honestly what saved this from being a three star review.) If you enjoy superhero comics as well as a good laugh, you'll probably enjoy this novella. Just don't set the narrative bar too high.

Fun But Predictable Narrative, Great Narration
