Also known as the Roman Elegies, Erotica Romana is von Goethe's literary tribute to human sexuality and eroticism. Written in 24 elegies to emulate classical Roman elegy writers such as Tibullus, Propertius, and Catullus, von Goethe creates a lyrical work of art that has often been subject to censorship because of the erotic content.

This may be the worst narrator in all my years of listening to Audible. At first I thought I was listening to a computer read the poem. Many mispronunciations of words and a flat, monotonous staccato that killed the poetry.

I thought the narration was machine-generated.

What would have made Erotica Romana better?

I should have looked for material presented with scholarly interpretation and discussion. Many of Goethe's references were over my head.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator needed to slow down, learn the pronunciation of key words, and introduce pauses where there is punctuation.

It's Goethe but the worst narration ever.

An adolescent male whose mother tongue is Spanish, using English to read German is not a good combination. I have never Heard Goethe’s name mangled to the extent offered in this audio book - Nightmarish!

Perhaps because I was expecting something wholly different snd not expecting what I assume was a more poetic prose, just didn’t sit well or me and couldn’t finish.

Not for me
