Evangeline describes the betrothal of an Acadian girl named Evangeline Bellefontaine to her beloved, Gabriel Lajeunesse, and their separation as the British deport the Acadians from Acadie in the Great Upheaval.

The poem then follows Evangeline across the landscapes of America as she spends years in a search for him. Finally she settles in Philadelphia and, as an old woman, works as a nun among the poor. While tending the dying during an epidemic she finds Gabriel among the sick, and he dies in her arms.

Thoroughly enjoyed Evangeline. It is a heartbreaking story, but important to know. Highly recommend to all, but to all Acadians, it is a must!

Everything about it - perfect!

My Cajun roots give me a bias for this story, yet this reading is truly endearing. Well done. Would that I could find other audible books of favorites as enchanting as this one.

Superb rendering of this tale of Lost Love.

I love this story -- it is by far one of my favorites. However, this Narrator doesn't seem to get that it is a love story. He just reads the words -- without any emotion at all. This could be read better with someone who understands and likes the story.

Wrong Narrator

This is a story I have know since I was young. The story of Evangeline is the story of my ancestors, the Acadians.
