When Constable Evan Evans is persuaded to join the local male choir for the upcoming eisteddfod (cultural festival), he doesn't think the addition of his mediocre voice will do them much good. In spite of all the effort that choirmaster Mostyn Phillips puts in to the choir, it is not exactly first class. Hope arrives in the form of world-renowned tenor Ifor Llewelyn, come home to Llanfair to rest, on doctor's orders.

Llewelyn immediately sets about renewing old friendships, and Mostyn even persuades him to sing with the choir. But Ifor isn't in Llanfair long before the residents decide that his presence is a mixed blessing. Noisy fights between Ifor and his wife, a threatening stranger, and Ifor's own warped sense of humor make life in Llanfair increasingly tense. When he announces that he is planning to write his memoir, telling all about his numerous relationships with famous and infamous women, he jokes that some people won't be happy. But is someone unhappy enough to commit murder to stop him? While tracking down a dangerous killer, Constable Evans also manages to navigate the treacherous waters of neighborhood rivalries, lusty barmaids, and local gossip.

With her third book in this acclaimed series, Rhys Bowen offers another pause-resisting tale of small-town mayhem and murder in Evanly Choirs.

Rhys Bowen has done it again! I loved this story as much as I loved the previous ones in the series. There were so many twists and turns and surprises. I really enjoyed listening to the narrator. His accents have very much improved over the course of time. Good clean mystery!

Very entertaining

In the third book in the series, in the quiet Welsh village, Evan the Law is asked to join the local choir as they practice for the annual competition. One of the local reverends and his wife have leased their house to the famous tenor, Ifor Llewelyn, returned home for a rest ordered by his doctor. Choirmaster Mostyn Phillips is determined to win the competition this year, and soon pays a visit to his old rival, Ifor to ask him to join the choir. Mostyn is sure he's secured a winning place, even though Ifor is a pain to work with and can never make it to practice on time. Frustration and dislike for the egotistical Ifor Llewelyn seem to come from every direction, as his cheating, cantankerous ways become increasing evident. His wife, his son, the domestic help, his various affairs . . . there's a pretty long list of those who would like to see him dead . . . but did he really kill himself as it appears? Evans the Law has a sharp eye out as the investigators begin to look into what looks like a suicide . . .

I love listening to these stories. They are a comfortable, delightful read while I am driving. The characters are charming, the story and mystery will hold your attention and might even surprise you and make you laugh on occasion.

2 things, however. There were 2 different narrators, thus 2 different voices for the characters during the first 3 books! This I did not like. Second, Audible.com published books 1, 2, 3, and 9. Seriously!! Why the hell would you jump to book #9?? I cannot read this. Too much happens in between.

Love this series
