The greater the Evil, the more deadly the game....

When a rapist is found mutilated in a brutal attack, Detective Kim Stone and her team are called in to bring a swift resolution. But, as more vengeful killings come to light, it soon becomes clear that there is someone far more sinister at work.

With the investigation quickly gathering momentum, Kim finds herself exposed to great danger and in the sights of a lethal individual undertaking their own twisted experiment.

Up against a sociopath who seems to know her every weakness, for Detective Stone, each move she makes could be deadly. As the body count starts to mount, Kim will have to dig deeper than ever before to stop the killing. And this time - it's personal.

The rising star of the British thriller scene returns with a novel that enthrall fans of Rachel Abbott, Val McDermid and Mark Billingham.

Critic reviews

"Stunning." ( The Mail on Sunday)
"I absolutely loved it...This one is one of the best crime thrillers I've read in a long time, and that includes mainstream authors such as James Patterson!" (Fiona's Book Reviews)
"I don't think I've been so hooked by a new author since the discovery of Mark Edwards or Mark Billingham...if you finish a crime thriller feeling like you just need to have a lie-down and a cup of tea to get your breath back, then the writer has done their job. Angela Marsons, I still don't have my breath back." ( Reading Room with a View)
Psychological Thriller • Intriguing Plot Twists • Excellent Narration • Complex Protagonist • Well-researched Storyline

I enjoyed the performance as much as the story line. I look forward to the next book!

Fantastic narration!

Sorry it wasn't longer. it ended far too quickly for me as I was thoroughly enjoying it. Having worked as a counsellor and in the field of mental health myself, it was a delightful surprise to find that this book was well researched. The concept of a sociopathic psychiatrist was delicious in a fictional story but, unfortunately not impossible in real life. So-called caring professionals who don't care are, sadly, not unusual. Fortunately, homicidal ones are rare! At least, as far as I know.

My only criticism is that the narrator could slow down a bit so the listener has more time to savour the story and her great characterization. The Midland accents and different voices are really good.

Any additional comments?

I found this police story be a very fascinating listen: plenty of challenges, some physical, some psychological, and some cognitive. Even though you know the guilty party, the action moves the reader along swiftly. The narrator was good, but I sometimes had trouble discerning whether I was listening to the perpetrator or the policewoman; they were both strong women who could be brash. I felt it would have been helpful if the narrator could have tried harder to make them sound different.
