The term originates from the Latin word dēcipiō, meaning "to deceive" or "to trick."

*Deception can be achieved through various means, including outright lies, exaggerations, strategic silence, advertising, misleading information, and subtle manipulation. The act of causing someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid.
