Most of us have had some experience with animals during the course of our life. For many of us, it has been through pets, primarily dogs and cats. Those of us who have raised pets can tell us many stories about their impact on our lives. I have experienced many pets in my life: from “Flag”, a Doberman who my parents acquired (in the 1940’s), when I was only around 5 years old: to “Juliet”, our cat who lately departed this life. (2023). In truth, they ALL became like members of our family for many of us.
Over the past decade, I have found it necessary to have to take my sick pet to the veterinarian only to find that the pet needed to be “put down”. Not long after that, I received notice about the “Rainbow Bridge.” That is a belief that (at least) the veterinarians have. It tells you that your pets will be waiting for you in heaven!!! That might seem like a stretch, but we have an all-powerful God who can accomplish anything! Personally, I would like to think that I just might meet some of my favorite pets in Heaven- but that might just be me dreaming.
No matter your beliefs, the fact is that animals are always around us, and always have been! Whether it’s the bird in your backyard tree, or the ants that invade your home! God has put these on earth for a variety of reason ranging from companionship (pets) to food, unless you are a full-fledged vegetarian. Of course, if you are a vegetarian, you still have some very special feelings about animals!
