Rupert is a lonely loser. He works in a small factory in Hamilton, Ontario for minimum wage, lives in a tiny dump and spends his spare time alone reading voraciously or watching TV. When his employer abruptly closes the plant and ships production to Bangladesh, Rupert discovers that his high school education is insufficient to secure another full time job. Deciding to leave Hamilton, Rupert is thrown into a series of unique and complex situations, the combination of which results in Rupert working as a lawyer in a small town in northern Pennsylvania.
