The parish has seen events that have been pivotal to Irish history but also to the story of America, the United Kingdom and Australia. Events that have shocked the world, shook the political establishment, and led to social and political change. Such as: Canon James McFadden – The land league campaigner and parish priest who was accused of the murder of RIC Inspector William Martin. Blackjack Adair and the Derryveagh evictions - It is often said that everyone is well thought off when they die, but there is one man with links to Gweedore of whom that can never be said. He was the Landlord ‘Black’ Jack Adair, the mastermind of the infamous Derryveagh Evictions and much much more.
