Meet Tommy Martini, the monk with an anger management problem. Since killing somebody with a single punch is not a needed talent in a monastery, he spends his time praying, meditating, and taking his anger management medicine. But his meditations are interrupted by a legacy from his uncle, a crooked priest.

Arriving in a New Age Arizona town to claim his inheritance, Brother Tommy meets a charismatic, smoking-hot cult leader who claims that women are being impregnated by alien beings while they sleep. Tommy’s own sleep is disturbed - by cartel hitmen, Mafia bill collectors, and women intrigued by his vow of chastity. He loses his anger management medicine in time to deal with the hitmen, but the women present an uphill battle.

William Kotzwinkle’s quicksilver touch has produced an effervescent piece of entertainment filled with suspense, turns you won’t see coming, and the humor for which he is famous.

This is the story of Brother Tommy who has been in a quiet monastery for five years in Mexico. There he had grown into a very different man than he had been before . Summonsed back to Arizona where his uncle is dying, he is met with his crazy Italian relatives. A wicked, jealous family who wants what was left to Tommy combined with a lot of loose ends that his crooked uncle left him, puts Brother Tommy on the defensive. I wish he didn't give in to the flesh so often as he did, but his resolution of the bad deeds he was faced with, was very entertaining. I hope there is another book after this one.

Fantastic narration. You really feel like you are being told a story from the point of view of a rumbling volcano.

Gritty Grandeur

I honestly enjoyed this story. It is full of action. Poor Tom can’t catch a break and is faced with trouble every where he goes. Tom was too nice for someone with anger problems. In fact, I didn’t really see his anger issues play throughout the story. Yes he is killing, but out of self defense. We even get two scenes of him in a boxing match and throughout the fight, he stresses how he does not want to hurt the fighters.
Overall, the story was very interesting.
