WWI was a war fought on the sea, in the air, across the landscape, in the trenches and underground. Beneath the soil both sides tunnelled and planted explosives to blow the enemy trenches apart. They also attacked each other far underground with counter mines and explosive camouflets. Every day, they silently dug their way towards the enemy while listening intently for the enemy's own tunnelling.
