Finding Home

It’s been weeks since Rayda held her husband and child, and she can’t wait to get home. She rents a car and heads to Tallahassee. Her husband is calling again, and she chuckles at his anxiousness—but this call is different. Roland says EMPs have shut down most of the country, and he fears Rayda may find herself stranded on the interstate. He urges her to buy supplies and find a safe place to stay for the night.
After a shopping spree at Walmart, she’s back on the road. It’s been a while since Roland’s last call. Then it hits her. Not a car in sight. Rayda slows. She’s never felt so alone or seen the interstate so desolate. A sudden chill causes her to shudder. Where is everyone? Rayda presses the gas. Suddenly the radio in the rental goes silent. A moment later, the car stalls on I-75. She grabs her phone. Dead. What has she done? Rayda panics and feels sorry for herself. Then an old lesson resurfaces. Rayda realizes it’s time to stop cowering. Nothing will prevent her from making it home.
On her journey, she questions God and why He’s putting her through this. Rayda doesn’t understand that He has a plan. Her pain and struggle to find her way home in a world gone mad will bring hope to those she meets along the way.
