From the dark fairy tale forests of Russia...

To the steamy intrigues of a Hong Kong opium den...

From ancestral secrets long hidden in a Paris mansion...

To the rolling, bloody hills of Ireland during the Troubles...

Trapped by circumstance and the events of his past in the USSR, Jamie Kirpatrick struggles to survive in a hostile environment where not all is as it seems and blood bonds are forged with enemies in order to survive.

In Ireland, Pamela and Casey Riordan attempt to live a normal life amid deceit, betrayal, and an unofficial war that claims more than just blood. Bequeathed a legacy by Jamie Kirkpatrick, they struggle to keep an empire intact but cannot know the surprises that await them.

Flights of Angels is not only historical fiction but equal parts political thriller, love story, and fairy tale. Richly embroidered with lush imagery, spanning continents and vastly different cultures, this is an epic tale of country and the turnings of the human heart.

Matching the quality of Ms. Brandner’s storytelling with a voice particularly suited to the characters and moods, Gary Furlong’s audio presentation is varied and evocative. It is seamless when characters voices change as he effortlessly converses and narrates, or becomes mystical as suits the beauty of the storytelling from old Irish or Russian folktales or Jungian hero journeys that allow us inside a tortured mind. The magical wonder of ancient places and timelessness of a struggle for survival are beautifully felt as love manifests in so many ways.
As I will, I am sure, listen again and again, each time the depth of the story will reveal even more understanding of how well crafted and engaging it is, and how well suited a tale it is for such a telling!

Beautifully told, engaging story <3

The Exit Unicorns series is a wonderful historical fiction series set in Ireland during the time of the Troubles. I have read all the books and am anxiously awaiting the next installment. The narrator brings this book to life and I am thrilled with how his voice and his subtle interpretations of the characters invokes the richly varied landscapes that this particular novel leads the listener into. Yet again, I’m not ready to come back from the magical kingdom that Cindy Brandner has created with her words and that Gary Furlong has lent his voice to interpreting this story

This is by far the most layered and complex of The Exit Unicorn series - stories within stories- all richly told in prose and translated into a verbal tapestry by the warm and compelling voice of Gary Furlong. We are left, as always, yearning for more.
Well done!

A mult-layered tapestry
