Florrie Buckley is an orphan living on the wind-blasted moors of Cornwall. It's a hard existence, but Florrie is content; she runs wild in the mysterious landscape. She thinks her destiny is set in stone.

But when Florrie is 14, she inherits a never-imagined secret. She is related to a wealthy and notorious London family: the Graces.

Overnight Florrie's life changes, and she moves from country to city, from poverty to wealth. Cut off from everyone she has ever known, Florrie struggles to adapt while learning the rules of a strange new world. And then she must try to fathom her destructive pull towards the enigmatic and troubled Turlington Grace, a man with many dark secrets of his own.

This is a magical book. Every element of life is intertwined in a heartbreaking, heartwarming and stunningly beautiful tale.
Although I seldom reread a book this will be an exception.

Tracy Rees is a masterful storyteller, captivating the listener with an unpredictable plot, and character development that leaves you in love with and hopeful for each person met through the telling. I love her new ways of describing and bringing alive things both ordinary and extraordinary. If you love language and to write, Tracy’s abilities will leave you with a richer understanding and appreciation of how to construct each sentence. The story of Florence Grace is beautifully rich and so interesting that I had to either find the long way home to listen to more, or don earbuds and get busy with non-essential tasks to feed the addiction of needing to know what would happen next. I loved this book and can’t wait for Tracy to write more.

JWright
This was my first encounter with a Tracy Rees novel, so I began without having any idea of this author’s style. The narrative depicts the life of a young country girl as she is forced into an environment of privilege. The stricture seems to follow that of a Gothic novel written a century earlier.
The narrator is superb!
Language is well done, and any vulgar language is used appropriately, but minimally.
The author gets your attention early maintains it throughout.

I read this book after Amy Snow, which I loved. This story is authentic for its time. I loved the ending and highly recommend it

Beautiful and tragically honest

Such a fun story. Really could walk in the main character’s shoes. Too much romance though, it repeated a lot of beats.

Great narrator
