Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is Chicago's only openly practicing wizard. He is also dead broke. His vast knowledge and magical skills are unfortunately matched by his talent for making powerful enemies and alienating friends. With little more than his integrity left, he accepts an offer of work from Lt. Karin Murphy of Chicago's Special Investigations Unit. He wants to redeem himself in Murphy's eyes and make enough money to quiet his rumbling stomach.

Soon he finds himself pinned between trigger-happy FBI agents, shape-shifiting motorcycle gang members, a threatened mobster boss, and an heir to an ancient curse along with his primal fiance. Throw in environmental activists and a pair of young werewolves in love and you have something of Fool Moon.

This second novel of the Dresden Files series really builds on the first and is an amazing, fast paced thrill ride with magic, the supernatural, and one wise cracking magi who happens to advertise in the yellow pages under Wizards. This is a great series for anyone who loves supernatural fun!

so this is what I've been missing out on!

I had just completed a very heavy historical fiction novel. It was the kind of book that stays with you. So, I needed something a little bit more light-hearted and fun to reset before the next Magnum opus. The Dresden Files are the perfect books for this. Don't get me wrong, the book is awesome and the characters are great. But, it was just what I needed coming out of a heavy emotional novel.

A fun transitional book

Into werewolves? Get this book. It's one of the best I've read that include the stories and myths of the creatures. It can be read as a standalone. It's gruesome, but the personalities, humor, and action make up for all the gore.

Hairy Harry

Where does Fool Moon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best!

Which character – as performed by James Marsters – was your favorite?

Harry Dresden

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh, definitely laugh.

Any additional comments?

Jim Butcher just keeps getting better, im now on the 12th book in this series and i wish there were a dozen more.

Mixing practical science fiction with pure fantasy so skillfully i cannot seem to tell when one ends and one begins. I've not seen the sort of skillfull articulation and practical speculation on secular things relating to the fae and magic in general.

In short Jim Butcher does such an excellent job hiding the seams that its as if this skillfull articulation between two genres is actually one.

James Marsters does an amazing job as well. With audio books it takes a definite amount of dedication to provide the reader with an adaquate experience and James does not dissapoint.

Great book, great series, he just cant write them fast enough.

Amazing series

What made the experience of listening to Fool Moon the most enjoyable?

James Marsters. I didn't feel like I was just listening to him read; he brings the characters to life and really nails Harry Dresden. I could see the story taking place in my mind's eye. It's a great book anyway, filled with so many twists and turns; but Marsters reads it perfectly.

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

He's not just reading, he's really acting out the parts.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Harry's irreverant attitude often makes me laugh. He's the Indiana Jones of the wizarding world.

Any additional comments?

I've read all the books in the Harry Dresden series and am a huge fan. I'm not a big paranormal fan. I detest sparkly vampires and the modern tendency to romanticize legendary evil creatures. What makes Butcher's books different is the homage he pays to the origins of these myths and legends. He writes them they way there are meant to be. And he ties it together with Harry Dresden, the world's most sarcastic and trouble-prone wizard. For a wizard, he's very human! Added to that, I think Butcher has created one of the best ever series arcs. Any of these books can stand alone, but read - or listened to - in order and it feels seamless.
