The Spellmonger series continues with a search for answers in The Lost Land of Anghysbel....

After winning two wars against the Nemovorti, Minalan plans an expedition to The Lost Valley of Anghysbel, in the far north of his realm. It's there, in the caldera of a supervolcano at the edge of the tundra, he suspects many of the answers he so desperately needs might be hidden. The only problem is that thanks to the anti-magical properties of the jevolar, his spells won’t work; he’ll be without magic for the first time since he came into his Talent. On this quest for the knowledge to save the world, the stakes are too high to be concerned about such things. Minalan seeks the knowledge he needs, no matter the price.

The Footwizard, Fondaras the Wise, has been to the realm of the jevolar four times in his long life. He knows the way, and he knows the great dangers of the non-magical land. He warns that Anghysbel is filled with forgotten creatures and lost races that have hidden from the world for eons. That doesn’t dissuade the Spellmonger—it’s a challenge. But once he’s there, Minalan’s expedition discovers a unique land filled with forgotten secrets.

Dark powers more ancient than the world dwell in exotic Anghysbel, powers that would speed Callidore’s destruction, not work for its salvation. Minalan the Spellmonger has to consider carefully if he’s willing to pay the price to save the world...and the cost of that bargain may well be his life.

Giving this 5 stars across the board purely due to the most masterful Rick Roll I’ve ever heard.

I'm so happy this one hit the mark for me. I've been chomping at the bit for this and I wasn't disappointed. You can't skip this one, so don't.

The spoilers are easy to do here because to me, most things in the story seem pretty obviously important either in the immediate or future. I will say that the pacing is good, the scene and settings are varied and relevant, and above all, THE STORY PROGRESSES.

One thing I think that stood out to me but definitely wasn't an issues was the lack of interaction between the super friggin interesting party that Minalan assembles. There was definitely meaningful interaction and the party members are definitely setting stuff up for later stories, but I just wanted more. Not because there wasn't enough, but because I liked what was there. There will be a lot of that in the end of the first act and the beginning of the second.

I was disappointed with the Shadowplay installation and this book makes up for it. This book is in the original mature-ish style and didn't disappoint.

Fun, adventure, and some very decent landscapes

If you made it this far in the series you know and probably love our good Spellmonger and his lords and ladies. This book takes us someplace completely new and exciting. I couldn't contain my laughter in some parts and wanted to shed a tear in others.

This book will leave you wanting and needing the next two books in the series. Good reading my friends!
