Bounce and blow, flyboy…

Alex ‘Maestro’ Wilcox was a player, and he knew it. Commitment was a four-letter word and he preferred a ‘touch and go’ when making contact, sticking to the three principles.

  1. Kiss the ladies...
  2. Tell them you’ll call…
  3. Move on!

… Until he kissed Everly – and she ran. That shouldn’t have bothered him and should have made things easy… right? Then why was he still thinking about her?

Deadstick landing in process, caution on approach…

Everly Briscoe shouldn’t have been there that evening. She shouldn’t have given the handsome man in uniform a second glance… but life was full of moments that were better off avoided. She knew better, knew he was trouble, but when he kissed her and then promised to call?

She got scared – and bolted.

Now, years later, in her hometown of Yonder, she was the small town’s only pediatrician and relatively happy… until her past strolled into her office carrying a toddler on his hip, asking her out for coffee.

What in the world was going on?

… And whose child was that?

Well, I have to say that I was quite dismayed with the problem that arose between Mallory and Alex. They definitely paid a high price for a single evening. Being a single parent is extremely difficult. Mallory was right, just having someone swoop in for a few days every now and then and paying some bills does not make a parent. I think Ginny Sterling did an outstanding job explaining the feelings that one might have in a similar situation. It was very well done and in good taste. As I listened to the audiobook, I was having a bit of inner turmoil with trying to figure out how things were going to work out in a way that Mallory wasn’t the only character suffering. Her situation was impacting her close friendship with Everly, as well as complicating her ability to meet someone who would be willing to take on a step child. I know this type of situation takes place 1000 times a day, but I still have a lot of empathy for the ones left in a position that could damage the frailty of the human psyche and potentially be demoralizing. Without the support of family and friends it’s easy to see someone could spiral into a realm of total depression. It was so refreshing to see that the union of Everly and Alex gave a nod to Mallory to assure her of her place in their family. Ginny has such a way, with her words in every story, that bring compassion and love into someone’s world rescuing their heart. I am so glad she is not an author that thrives on doom and gloom as do so many other authors. I have to say that I normally complain about virtual narrators, but I absolutely love the way. Caleb‘s childish talking came across, it was just precious. It was very discernible so you could definitely tell what the child was saying. Absolute perfection!
