A stormy encounter...

Samantha DeMartino's Christmas wedding is two weeks away when her fiancé calls the whole thing off. Word on the street: His cold feet are being heated by an old flame. With her well-ordered world in complete disarray, Sam's friends convince her to go on her honeymoon - alone. A week at a charming Vermont inn away from the city, and her demanding corporate career could be just what she needs to figure out her next steps.

Between his 24/7 work schedule on his family's dairy farm and teaching tourists to ski, Jed Armstrong's too busy to think about how lonely he is...until Sam sings her way into his life during a Christmas blizzard. Now, he has to figure out a way to convince her to stay.

Can a vivacious city girl find forever with a reclusive farmer? Will her secret keep her from trying?

After enduring what would have dropped most people to their knees, Samantha takes control and instead of becoming the jilted bride, she goes on her honeymoon - solo. The town and the people and the general good feel of this listen make it completely worth it! Montalvo narrates this most excellent book most excellently, until the very satisfactory HEA.

A very sweet story

A thoroughly enjoyable story of a second chance romance and not letting opportunities pass because of fear or preconceived notions of how love should happen. Great characters. I adored the small town setting. Treat yourself to this book. You won't be disappointed.

Big city girl and the small-town farm boy (an audio review)

Samantha DeMartino can’t catch a break. Her fiancé dumped her two weeks before their Christmas wedding and at the urging from her best friends, she decided to go on the honeymoon solo. A week in a picturesque Vermont town learning to ski and enjoying the snow is perfect for a woman nursing a wounded heart, right?

Except, well, Vermont. Winter. Snow. So much snow. Sam gets caught in a snowstorm and winds up being rescued by a gorgeous taciturn stranger who glowers as much as anything. But he delivers Sam safely to the Deerbourne Inn and that’s what matters. What Sam does not expect is the man, Jed Armstrong, is also her Nordic ski instructor. Soon she’s getting lessons that are up close and personal. Jed is also a dairy farmer working on the family farm and Sam’s a total New York City girl. Opposites attract? Well, Sam’s willing to have a holiday fling. But it can’t be more than that, right?

I am enjoying the Deerbourne Inn series and was thrilled to listen to the latest addition. Charlotte O’Shay has written a fun story with some endearing moments. I loved how strong both Jed and Sam’s families are. And the Willow Springs family as well. Gotta love small towns.

Stephanie Montalvo narrated the story and I think she did a good job. The book is written in first person present tense which I’m not normally a fan of but Stephanie gave an immediacy to Sam that I really liked. She could have gone stronger on the New York accent, but she reserved that for a secondary character and that worked well. I also have to call out the little treat of the Introverted Armstrong and the Valentine epilogue – nicely done.

At the end of the audio there are delicious recipes and if I were so inclined, I would have written them down and tried them out. All in all, I really enjoyed my visit to Willow Springs and can’t wait for more installments from the Deerbourne Inn series.

This was an enjoyable short light read. The Vermont setting was heartwarming. The characters are all warm and appealing. Yes, it would make a typical Hallmark movie, and we all need some of that at least once in a while.

I would like to know a little more about the Inn’s desk clerk, Jason(?). He was a bit unbelievable, but very appealing.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Enjoyable, light read
