With plenty of intrigue and a war between the different factions of powered people, FRAYED not only takes you on an epic journey of people fighting for freedom, it delves deep into the psyche and what it truly means to be free.
I loved the way the author framed Ryan’s story and his fractured personality. It really makes one think about how we handle the hard things in life. In the last book, I kind of looked at Amadeus as the enemy. The guy who uses Ryan’s psychic powers in wicked ways, but I love the way the author framed Ryan’s inner struggle in this story. I don’t want to include spoilers, so that’s all I will say about that.
I loved that Anna seemed to be more active in this story. I don’t mean that in relation to the writing, but in that Anna is struggling to face the pain in her past and to find her way out of the maze of lies constructed to keep her and the others trapped.
This book reminded me of X-Men First Class meets X-2, the X-Men movie where the team goes to confront Stryker (but with a bit of ATLA on the side).
Think X-Men with a bit of Avatar the Last Airbender
