This is a good book to start with. A Freelancer gives you the basics of how to avoid many of the pitfalls people fall into. I found it very interesting and useful.

Independent Consultant Survival Guide

Shortly after buying the paperback book, I purchased the Audible version as a drive-to-work refresher. The book is excellent but even better when spoken by the author. As I mentioned in the book review, this book is the top "wish I knew when I started" guide to independent consulting that I still come back to as a refresher.
