L. E. Modesitt, Jr. continues the Saga of Recluce, the long-running, bestselling epic fantasy series. In a new story arc, From the Forest follows the early life of a man known by many names depending on who you ask—hero, tyrant, emperor.

Alayiakal, who will one day be known by many names—not all of them flattering—has to climb the ranks of Cyador's Mirror Lancers, fighting against unforeseen weapons and ancient technology.

Alayiakal, however, has secrets of his own to protect: his ties to the Great Forest and his magus abilities. He must silently pretend to be a conventional soldier favored by fate—until that very same fate forces him to choose.

I can't wait until the next chapter in this saga. Kirby Heyborne is the best voice actor in the genre. His range is huge.

glad to finally hear about an ancient figure

very much enjoyed the book, however it was rather slow for a great number of chapters in the middle and should have spent more time in tying up the ending.

excellent auditary & Storyline!

The book overall was a good read but it lacked the depth of his previous work. The narrator was excellent. His use of different voices and speech styles kept me interested and entertained.

Not bad but not his best

Some history repeats from other books in series. Still a good book and a good "read".

Good character development.

This book was difficult to keep in line. So many names and subplots made it somewhat difficult to follow at times with so many similar sounding names and mentions, some of which seemed irrelevant. Overall the book was good just hard to keep straight and almost droning at times.

This one well ..
