Elizabeth had everything. She was the head researcher at the largest hospital in the largest city on the colony world, Voltaire, and was constantly rebuffing marriage proposals from the wealthiest men in town.

In one instant, everything changed.

Caught between her bright future as a research scientist for the Empire, and the stigma of her past as the daughter of an outspoken protestor against the Empire, Elizabeth is forced to help a known terrorist escape from Voltaire, putting her life and her future in jeopardy.

Fugue: The Cure is a short science-fiction novel from the inventive mind of Steve DeWinter (writing as S.D. Stuart), bringing his action-packed storytelling format to the short-story science-fiction genre.

The narrator was pretty good, but I certainly wouldn’t put this narrator on my preferred list. There were a couple of places where the narrator shined though. She did a good job, but overall, her voice is a little bit nasally. The story is a good sci-fi story that prepares you for the series and gets you excited about listening to subsequent volumes to see how it progresses. It was a fun listen, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it unless you could get the series altogether in a package for a reasonable price. The idea of having a musical fugue tattooed on someone’s skin for a formula was an interesting twist. The extra notes that were not in the original fugue and their letters provide the formula. I thought that was cool. I hope that was not a spoiler.

Very short, but it certainly prepares you for the series

Released in 2014 I don't think that the author knew that this would become closer to a premonition of future life as opposed to a science fiction work.

This is a very quick listen at 42 minutes long, I was able to get through it a couple of times while at work. Don't let the short run time stop you from reading this book. There is so much going on within such a small run time that listening to it two or three times I can highly recommend.

There's a bit of a dystopian world that is overrun with... You guessed it, a deadly virus. As it is short I'm not going to give away too many spoilers and that is probably about the only one I'm going to give away.

I found a very easy to listen to as the narrator Megyn Kelly did a very good job at reading through everything and keeping you interested throughout the whole book. She spoke very clear and I was able to do different voices decently so you can differentiate between the characters easily.

I did find this book to be very interesting and sets up a intense world that I do want to read more of but I hope it doesn't hit as close to home as I get further into it, because I'm sure like many other people, I am tired of what is currently going on in this world due to a virus.

I definitely want to go through the next books in the series and I hope that the world gets more fleshed-out and we can explore more of this story and characters.

In My Opinion, this is a great way to spend 42 minutes of your time either while doing dishes or whatever, you should pick this up and read it. Very worst case scenario, you are out 42 minutes of listening time. But I think you will enjoy it and want to read more.

I give this book 4 bloody noses out of 5.
