One of our great contemporary scientists reveals the ten profound insights that illuminate what everyone should know about the physical world

In Fundamentals, Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek offers the reader a simple yet profound exploration of reality based on the deep revelations of modern science. With clarity and an infectious sense of joy, he guides us through the essential concepts that form our understanding of what the world is and how it works. Through these pages, we come to see our reality in a new way--bigger, fuller, and stranger than it looked before.

Synthesizing basic questions, facts, and dazzling speculations, Wilczek investigates the ideas that form our understanding of the universe: time, space, matter, energy, complexity, and complementarity. He excavates the history of fundamental science, exploring what we know and how we know it, while journeying to the horizons of the scientific world to give us a glimpse of what we may soon discover. Brilliant, lucid, and accessible, this celebration of human ingenuity and imagination will expand your world and your mind.'

Loved every min as an armchair physicist I knew a good bit already but it was the perfect balance for an expert or someone like me who is just fascinated an can't afford school so Amazon books is the second best way to be auto didactic .

great armchair read

Great narrator. I have to read it and listen to it again. It requires more illustrations to understand.

a must read over and over

I agree with most reviewers that you can’t really appreciate this work on the first reading. While it reads quickly I found myself halfway through the next chapter while still trying to grasp what I just read in the last.

I would recommend that the Science-Deniers and Fundamentalist Whackos be strapped in a chair and made to listen to the opening chapters to realize the Magnificent Reality these Fundamentals of Space, Time, Matter, Energy, Complexity, and Complementarity have built for us.

The Narration was pleasantly comforting. Four Stars. ****

An important book that requires many readings.

Carlo Rovelli is an optimist. He suggests reality “…Is Not What It Seems” but will be revealed by scientific inquiry. It will not be revealed by time because time does not exist. Reality does not lie in infinity but in the revelations of physics research and fundamental laws discovered by scientists from future information.

Time might be defined as a rock that hits the ground. It creates heat that dissipates by transferring its heat energy to the ground. Time is like a marker for heat that dissipates. To Rovelli, infinity is simply an unanswered question in physics that will be answered with more information.

Rovelli gives another peek at the complexity of the science of physics. He writes with as much clarity as the subject will allow for a non-scientist.
