With Earth destroyed by an alien power, a surviving off-world colony genetically modifies human children so they can endure and bring justice for the decimation of their all but extinct species. One of the few humans to leave Earth before the scourge, the half-man cyborg, Bass, runs a gambling establishment for his arachnid employer and seeks greater fortunes as a free agent in the galaxy. When a fourteen-year-old boy, Wick, enters the arena and subdues two lethal killers against all odds, Bass sees his opportunity. Can the cyborg and the altered boy unify their efforts and find a way off planet? Will they become scavengers, or pirates... or search the verse for Wick’s lost siblings?
