Interesting story, poor recording

For the story, I find the goal and the actions to accomplish them, interesting. However, the characters are a little flat and simple. I'd like to care more about what happens to them. The audio quality just bothered me. It sounds as though the audio was balance incorrectly with a lot of distortion. I don't know if that was low quality audio in general or poor production.
