Jack Varga is falling for Ryn Wilkie, a young surgeon who can jump to parallel worlds. Jack would like to have a serious relationship with her, but he might be too much in awe for her to take him seriously. He has his own secret though.

Ryn's starting a patchwork surgical fellowship while continuing to try to help the people of Cearth, an Earth with the technological level of our late 1800s. She wants to improve the plight of women on that world - but is realizing that raising everyone's standard of living may do more for women than just trying to get them equal rights.

Ryn’s brother continues to have financial trouble. She gives him some gold as well as financial advice, but he gets in trouble with a gang over the gold. Now the gang's after Ryn!

Oh, and that other parallel Earth she discovered? The one that doesn't seem to have any humans? It still has some animal species that've gone extinct here on Earth...

Travel with Ryn to worlds full of terror and promise.

I am quite sorry to see this book end, especially since I haven't seen any further books available that are set in the worlds of Ryn Wilkie. I sincerely hope this isn't the last one. By now, I have probably listened to at least 100 hours of Laurence Dahner's various books. They have all been fantastic and this book and series is no different. I enjoy his world building and characters. The books I am familiar with so far all focus on special senses/powers. I love that Dahner's sense of justice aligns with mine and that the bad guys get what's coming to them. Also, it is a joy to be there when his characters explore and get to know the full extent of their senses/powers. He was originally an orthopedic surgeon at a teaching hospital and I am fascinated by the medical aspects of his books. Most other authors have to resort to rushed, high level descriptions of illnesses and medical procedures but Dahners treats the reader to detailed and accurate descriptions of the workings of the human body. Overall, I just really like to read books by an intelligent person with a strong imagination and an eye towards the importance of good editing and narration.

My only issue, and this seems to apply to all of Dahner's work but especially this series, is his persistent, repetitive use of the terms "snort" and "snorted." I understand that authors need a plethora of terms to describe human conversations, but I personally find this particular term, especially when used constantly, to be detestable. That is a small criticism of otherwise excellent work.

Excellent series

Dahners has truly mastered world-building, seamlessly blending a variety of unique ideas into his books. It’s such a refreshing change! I’m beyond excited for Ryn’s upcoming adventures. I really don’t understand why these books haven’t reached a wider audience—they deserve so much more recognition!

Fabulous Series!
