Twin sisters Cassandra and Anastasia have discovered their mother's legacy: a 40-year-old cold case murder.
When Cassie and Ana return to their childhood home in rural Connecticut, among their deceased mother’s belongings they stumble across an unpublished manuscript: a murder mystery, written by their mom's girlfriend AJ —and featuring their mother as a key character.
Cassie, a writer, wants to turn the old story into a bestseller. Ana, fearful of what they will learn, wants to destroy it.
As the sisters delve into AJ's story, they uncover a disturbing trail leading to an abandoned village the locals call Grabtown.
As AJ says, “Small towns are great for scolding the kids who throw too many snowballs, but not always good at spotting real evil.”.
When Cassie's volatile husband Marsh demands they stop digging, and a retired detective arrives asking dangerous questions, the twins realize someone believes AJ's story isn't fiction—it's a confession.
What's really behind Marsh's highly successful rare-motorcar enterprise? Why does the past refuse to stay buried? And why is a major crimes detective now urging them to flee?
Set in rural New England, Grabtown is a powerful twofold story that exposes the dark underbelly of small-town secrets, where courage and unshakable loyalty become the only weapons against those who prey on the vulnerable.
If you enjoy suspense, high-stakes tales of sisterhood, and satisfying stories of justice and redemption, you'll love Grabtown. Listeners of Grabtown are also fans of Kellye Garrett's Like a Sister, Liz Moore's The God of the Woods, and The Moonflowers by Abigail Rose-Marie.

As they dig deeper, their search leads to the abandoned village of Grabtown and a web of secrets that refuse to stay buried. With a persistent detective asking questions and growing pressure from Cassie’s husband to stop, the sisters begin to suspect the manuscript is less fiction and more confession—forcing them to decide how far they’re willing to go to uncover the truth.
The author, Sarah P. Blanchard, demonstrates strong storytelling skill, crafting a narrative that is both immersive and deliberately paced to keep tension building throughout. Characters are thoughtfully developed, allowing their motivations and complexities to unfold in a way that deepens the suspense rather than rushing it. The dialogue feels natural and authentic, grounding the story and making each interaction believable and impactful.
The plot is layered with twists that are genuinely unexpected yet feel earned, leading to a conclusion that is both satisfying and well-resolved. It’s worth noting that the subject matter can be difficult at times, as it touches on themes of human trafficking and the vulnerability of children. However, these elements are handled in a way that underscores the seriousness of the story while maintaining its emotional depth. Overall, the result is a compelling and skillfully executed read.
The narrator, Meghan Kelly, delivers a consistently engaging performance, bringing a clear and confident voice that makes the story easy to follow from start to finish. Each character is given a distinct presence through rich tonal variation, allowing listeners to easily differentiate voices without ever feeling exaggerated or forced.
Her sense of timing is particularly strong, with a natural cadence that enhances both the quieter moments and the more intense scenes. She skillfully maintains tension where it matters most, building suspense in a way that feels organic rather than overdone. The pacing remains steady throughout, ensuring the story moves forward without dragging or feeling rushed.
What truly stands out is her commitment to the performance—she fully immerses herself in each audiobook, delivering a level of energy and consistency that never disappoints.
Together, the author’s gripping narrative and the narrator’s immersive delivery create an audiobook that lingers well beyond the final chapter. This is a haunting, well-crafted experience that will keep listeners captivated until the very end.
