What could be more commonplace than grass or a world covered over all its surface with a wind-whipped ocean of grass? But the planet Grass conceals horrifying secrets within its endless pastures. And as an incurable plague attacks all inhabited planets but this one, the prairie-like Grass begins to reveal these secrets - and nothing will ever be the same again.

All through this book I found myself being annoyed by the author's inability to describe circumstances and events in such a way that they made any kind of sense. After going through the whole book I understand the author was trying to create a sense of Mystery which would be eventually resolved by the end of the book but she did an extremely poor job a fulfilling that task. She attempted to make some religious and spiritual statements but it was all extremely shallow and showed no true understanding of the nature of reality. If you decide to try this book out just understand that you will have to listen for eight or nine hours before you'll be able to find any reason to continue. very few of the characters were memorable. a world is described in which none of the inhabitant seem to care about each other. the parents don't care about their children or about each other and I as a reader don't care about any of the characters at all. I really could care less what happens to any of them and that's a failure on the part of the author. I don't recommend this one. For the most part I think it was a waste of time and it'll be one book that I completely forget within a few weeks.

Extremely difficult to follow.

One of Sheri Teller's most loved books, "Grass" touches on themes of feminism, religion, sentience, and family with richly drawn characters and exquisite world building. It is an engaging story that will stay with you long after you're done.

One of the greats.

It’s a great underlying idea, but the idea could have been told in half as much space using better, more accurate descriptions. When the author tries to become philosophical, which is often, it comes off as wordy and cheap. The Sifi and action sequences are good in theory but short on content and have a habit of being confusing.

So. Much. Filler.

Grass, Raising the Stones, and Sideshow comprise the Arbai trilogy. Grass is an excellent example of Ms. Tepper's incredible ability to create worlds and "take you away." Can't wait for The Companions, Family Tree, The Margarets, and so many more! She is one of my absolute favorite authors.

Finally!

Expansive worlds, monarchy cultures, interesting aliens, exploration of meaningful questions, and well put together. Engaging throughout the entire story.

A good mixture of many classic sci fi themes
