Athelstane, Wisconsin, a tiny town insulated from the twenty-first century by the dense northern woods, is populated by endearing, Mayberry-esque citizens. While attending a local funeral, Ernestine (Ernie) Barton, a recently transplanted retiree, is shaken when the widow drops dead into the open grave containing the casket of her newly departed husband. The other mourners and the inept town sheriff see nothing unusual in the woman's death other than poor timing. Ernie becomes convinced the widow was murdered but she's the only one who thinks so. She tries to find the truth, and along the way she discovers jealousy and blackmail. She also finds friends and a town she grows to love and care about. Cozy Mystery Women Sleuths
