In this apocalyptic thriller, the nation is amid a major financial collapse when the United States is pulled into regional wars in Europe and Asia. Suddenly, phones and internet go out, likely the cause of a cyber-attack by a hostile foreign actor. Unprepared for such a reality, society as we know collapses and chaos is the new normal.

As civilization collapses around him, Doug Chapman, a retired Air Force OSI Special Agent and Wisconsin State Trooper, has prepared his family for the worst. But when his community asked him to step up once again to serve as the local law enforcement, he needs assistance. Raising a posse consisting of volunteer firefighters, teachers, and military veterans, they work together to help the small town of Rockport survive the collapse.

It's a shame this book didn't get a human narrator. The AI had some weird pronunciation and inflections. Other than that annoyance, the story was well written, with well-developed characters. The interaction is believable and the story was a good one.

Guardians of Rockport was a pretty good story and well put together.

Despite virtual voice I’m really surprised at how much I like the characters and story so far.
I’m off to book 2.

Enjoyed

I do not like the AI reading. it is super annoying listening to it. The reading out of gun caliber is laughable "point two two caliber" instead of 22 caliber

This book provides a good balance of community working together. This is probably more realistic.

I really enjoyed this 1st book in the series. I like apocalyptic stories and this was a bit different from others that I have read. Very interesting and loved the fact it took place in my home state of Wisconsin. Looking forward to the next book.
