The firearms used by troops during WWII were by and large built with steel and hardwood. Some aluminum and polymers were used here and there, but when you think of WWII guns, you think hardwood and steel; M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Thompson submachine gun, Mosin-Nagant, 8mm Mauser, .303 Enfield, etc. During the post-WWII era, every nation who had participated in the aforementioned engagement was looking to make improvements in their country’s arsenal.

As the Cold War was a significant era for not just the United States, but the rest of the world, the weapons developed and used during that era have some unique history and stories. Thus, we will consider a number of the most popular and prevalent examples of firearms that were used during the Post-WWII era up to around 1990 when we moved in what can be referred to as the “post Cold War” or “pre-GWoT” era in history. Over 100 photos are included to support the text.

This book originally began as a few articles penned by the author for Shooting News Weekly, an Outdoor Wire Digital Network property. With the consent and cooperation of SNW, the article series has become the book you now hold in your hands. We hope that you will enjoy it.
