Avery Shaw is back from her honeymoon and on the prowl for a story. She wants to prove that marriage has softened her - nothing ever could - and the way she’s going to do that is by rocking the news world with something monumental.

Then a body drops in her neighborhood, only blocks away from her house, and the hunt is on.

The victim is divorced, having an affair with a married coworker, and generally unlikable. Avery has multiple places to look for a suspect...and then another woman dies only a block away from Avery’s house, and the entire dynamic of the story changes.

Avery’s new husband Eliot is worried, enough so that he taps Sheriff Jake Farrell to help. Avery’s anger with Jake hasn’t diminished, but now they’re working as a group to track down a deadly killer.

Avery doesn’t want help but she needs it, because someone is watching her house and, more importantly, her. Eliot is beside himself and begins upgrading their security system but it doesn’t feel like enough.

Avery is supposed to cover the news, not become part of it. This time the headline that’s coming for her includes the word “victim”, however, and she’s having none of it.

She’s a strong, capable woman, and if she has to take down a serial killer, she’s going to do it...as long as she’s not taken down first.

Her team is large and in charge, and it’s going to take all of them working together. Even then, they may not be strong enough to stem the tide of death washing over Macomb County.

It’s time. Avery is ready for war.

Avery is a top notch star reporter. She's proven herself to be smart, clever and able to handle herself in a crisis.
Jake is the sheriff, he's Avery's ex-boyfriend and somehow doesn't seem to understand that as a reporter, Avery is there to collect facts, to get information that will help her break a story. No, Jake thinks of her as a regular citizen that should run to his office whenever she gets into a story and spill what she has in order for him to solve the crime.
NO!! A reporter is not there to serve as an informant for the police. Everyone knows that! Yet Jake and Elliot (Avery's husband) always get angry at her for not sharing with the police.
The snark and the chase as Avery follows the facts to the main story is what what this series great. Her interaction with her crazy family and her best friend Carly, who is a new mother that is now always trying to find options on how to handle her 'devil' baby. Very funny. Avery's grandfather is just the coolest and wildest old guy ever.
Rocky her kitten, is a awesome new addition. He's got attitude and cute for days.

Avery rocks again, Jake & Elliot not so much

Another winner 🏆 by AML/LHH!!! I thought I had it all figured out, I was mostly right. However, I wasn't expecting the surprise at the end 😲

I love the Avery Shaw series. The only thing I don’t like is the wait between books! I have listened to the series several times and will probably listen to it again in the near future. There are only a few series I will listen to repeatedly, and this is definitely one of them. It’s very interesting to watch Avery’s personal growth and development, even though she’s not aware that it’s happening. She retains her own distinctive personality, but yet has become more aware of the people around her and their feelings and needs. I hope the series goes on forever! I am anxiously awaiting book 21.

More Avery, Please!!
