"It's amazing how life goes back to normal, how the world keeps spinning, even after you do something so terrible that it can never be forgiven. You get up in the morning. You eat. You shower. Shave. Use the toilet. And the dream. Always the same dream. There is no escaping it. In my dream, I plunge the knife into a little girl's chest.” - Sam Harlan

Six weeks since discovering the truth behind his family legacy, Sam Harlan has worked with Sister Callie Calahane to learn how to kill vampires, desperate to make them pay.

The woman's voice on the answering machine was intriguing. “Jack, it's Mary Kate. I've got your newest order and.... I need to talk.” Jack Harlan, the legendary vampire killer, was Sam's distant relative, but Jack Harlan was dead. Sam had seen to it himself.

Will investigating the source of the message push Sam and Sister Callie beyond their limit, or will they survive the hard times?

Hard Times is a story about a man who has suffered greatly but moves forward to protect others from blood lusting vampires. This story is a traditional dark story with multiple deaths and a hero beaten down. These are not your Twilight vampires. Good character and storyline building. The narrator, Mr. Loving, dis a nice job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This book sees the main character really start to develop as he and the sister struggle to catch an old, sneaky vampire. A few surprises in the plot and really good narration make this better than the first IMO.

I started the series with this book, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't feel like i was missing too much from the first book. The story line was an interesting take on the vampire hunter genre. I thought the characters and dialog were engaging and the narration was good too. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.

I really enjoyed this one

Book 2 sees Sam still reeling from the events of the first book. Sister Callie Calahane has agreed to help Sam hunt the Vampires and both are now living in Jacks old house. Sam gets a call one day from a friend of Jacks and he goes to talk to her. Sam and Callie have their work cut out for them with this case!!

I loved book 1 and was eager to listen to this one, but I was slightly disappointed with it! It wasn't as good as the first because the plot felt a lot slower and not as action packed. But never the less, it was still a great read!

Poor Sam is still trying to deal with what happened in book 1 and is still out for revenge. Missing his mentor, he and Callie have to try and train themselves and learn all they can before they have to go hunting again. My heart broke for Sam, but I was also impressed with his tenacity and willingness to do what's needed. He grew a lot during this book and I'm happy he did! Callie, meanwhile, is one plucky Sister. Her faith is very strong, despite what happened to her sister in book 1. I loved seeing her power against the Vampires!

In all, this was a good edition to the series. It wasn't as fast paced as book 1 but it still held my attention the whole way through, and it makes me excited to see what else is in store for Sam and Callie! These characters are growing on me!!

David Loving did a great job bringing this to life. He had plenty of different tones and voices for the characters, and was easy to listen to.

Deliciously dark!!

I love this series so much that I couldn't even pause to write this review before switching to book 3! As with any book there are parts where I'm not 100% thrilled with something, but this series and narration have minimal spots that make me feel that way. I cannot wait for book 4!

I couldn't wait!
