And while Europeans go mad, corporations turn tyrannous, and the legend of a great ivory hunter is dangled before him, Marlowe observes everything with a keen eye, as we journey with him into the heart of darkness.

Narration not good.

I really enjoyed listening to "Kidnapped" with B.J. Harrison as narrator. I don't know what happened here. I found that his voice did not match the characters, and often he would hush to a whisper for no reason.I could not finish it. Maybe one day I'll get this book by another narrator.

This IS "Heart of Darkness" (plus "Youth")

Ignore the reviews warning that this is not "Heart of Darkness" (Audible should remove them as being misleading). The first four chapters are a different short story, so simply skip ahead to Chapter 5 if you only wish to hear the main title. This is an excellent audio performance of Conrad's classic.

Spectacular

Absolutely, positively, 110% wonderful. The reader did an excellent job in portraying emotions for each of the characters. The tone of voice for different sections changed nicely. It was a lovely book and hearing someone else read it was better for me. It makes me want to read more of Joseph Conrad's books. This one was just breathtaking.

Mesmerizing

Great narration, it draws you in. Hardest part is not listening to the whole thing in one sitting.

Don’t skip ch 1-4

Chapter 5 is where Heart of Darkness starts. The other short story (ch 1-4) is very enthralling and worth the listen. HoD is a terrible story; narrator does a great job for what he had to work with. If you’re looking for history of the Congo, this is not it.
