Lieutenant Emily “Blaze” Carter, a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force, was used to commanding attention. But something about Jack Turner had her nerves tangled in a way no high-G maneuver ever had.

As she settled into her seat near the front, she could hear Jack and another pilot, Lieutenant Mark Roberts, talking a few rows behind her.

"Mark, you ever flown with Carter?" Jack asked, his voice low but unmistakable.

Mark smirked. "Once. She's sharp. Handles that jet like it’s an extension of herself. And, well... she’s easy on the eyes, too."
