Maddie Hargrove is soon to turn 21, and has already spent two years in college. The problem is, she has succeeded in earning enough credits to barely qualify as a sophomore.

Maddie is warm, sweet, and extremely attractive. However, she lacks incentive and drive, not only in regard to taking classes, but even finding part-time employment while in school.

And now, after dropping classes, and not passing some of them, Maddie is faced with an ultimatum from her parents.

Maddie can stay in her lifelong home, as long as she finds full-time employment. It is then up to her as to whether she wishes to continue going to college, but in any case, the parental checkbook has been slammed shut.

On the other hand……… Maddie can agree to go and live with family friends in Madsen, Texas, the small city in the middle of ranch and farm country, where responsibility is learned, if necessary, the hard and painful way.

If she goes to live in Madsen and attend college there, her parents will pick up her educational expenses. But Maddie must agree that she will be under the tutelage of the older son of those family friends, who will have the authority to mete out the basic and direct discipline Maddie is so in need of.
