A story from the anthology Masters of True Crime, which spans murder cases from the beginning of the 20th century to today. This is a must-hear for fans of true crime and will also be compelling to mystery and thriller listeners.

I like the crisp writing. It is very listenable. I hope to see more from this author. The only thing I regret is, it is so short, the story jumps from event to event, and I wish it would linger and develop more of the surrounding characters and details. Some of the dealings and names, especially in Blitzstein's later life and career (and relating more to the west coast), come and go so quickly, they seem underdeveloped here. There is next to nothing about the "Mickey Mouse Mafia," i.e., Cosa Nostra as based in Los Angeles in the mid-20th century. Something that might attract more listeners is the close connection with Tony Spilotro in the heyday of the Hole in the Wall Gang in Vegas. Blitzstein and Spilotro both grew up in Chicago and met there. This of course is more of a Chicago Outfit connection than an L.A. connection.

Good. I wish it was longer, more detailed

The most interesting part of this story for me was the beginning when it told about the poverty and life of Herbert Blitzstein and the neighborhood where he grew up. The author did a good job of covering his move from Chicago to Las Vegas and the crimes he committed in the mob. For those interested in mob activity, this will be an interesting listen.
