When Sheriff Evan Rigley assigns state trooper Johnny Lister to investigate a late-night convenience store shooting, she’s alarmed to find the missing girl she was already searching for is one of the gunman’s targets. The girl and her aunt, both under witness protection, have somehow been found by the ruthless crime family they were hiding from.

Complicating matters, Johnny’s friend, CIA Deputy Director Leland Marshall, was also at the scene—but with no clear connection to the incident. His presence, combined with his failure to inform his family he was in Grove, suggests he was working a case. Worse, Leland is seriously injured, and before authorities can intervene, the girl and her aunt flee, taking him with them. All three vanish without a trace.

Johnny assembles a covert investigative team to track them down, only to discover a mole in their midst—feeding intel to the same crime family hunting them. When Johnny finally uncovers the heartbreaking reason Leland was in Grove, her determination to find him intensifies. But now, it's a race against time. Who will reach Leland and the fugitives first—and who will still be standing when the smoke clears?
