This book is a collection of cycle tour accounts based on trips that the author has made in the Alps alone and with friends over the last few years, covering Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Germany and Austria. Each route was chosen with a theme in mind, such as Napoleon's passes constructed to enable him to invade conquer Italy and the Venetian Republic. History and the local geography are brought together from the viewpoint of the cyclist's handlebars. Hopefully these accounts will help to bring the places to life for the reader. The Alps are a wonderful playground for cyclists, not just because of the natural beauty, the diversity of cultures but because they can really test a cyclist’s mettle. Maps of the individual stages are provided to guide armchair travellers and saddle borne riders alike.
