Travelin-Apple and friends float their raft of “sex, drugs and rock n’ roll” on an ever-flowing river of “peace, love and good vibes.” The literary treatment of this tale is as appropriately fresh and provocative as the time in American History that is being depicted. “Hippie” is a vivid tale of adventure and romance, that doesn’t just tell you about the Hippie movement, it takes you there. Travelin-Apple’s journey affords the reader a vicarious experience, from the safety of their own armchair, to “take a trip and never leave the farm.” It promotes and instills the feeling of “being there,” as it provides a very real sense of what it was like to live and love and hitchhike as a Hippie.
