What do you know about Greek history?

The ancient Greeks loom large in legend and lore. In ancient myth, names such as Hercules, Achilles, and Prometheus scream out to us from the primordial past. Who are these strange, mysterious figures? More importantly, who were they to the Greeks? Greek mythology provides a key to Greek culture itself.

The Greeks always valued noble virtues such as courage and strength, which was reflected in their ancient mythologies. And these same strains of character can be seen interwoven throughout Greek history itself. Even when the chips were down, the Greeks stood strong against insurmountable odds.

The Greeks battled Persians, Macedonians, Romans, and Ottomans, and although they didn’t always win the wars of the battlefield, they almost always won over the hearts and minds of the conquered and conquerors alike. Greek culture was so strong that it was passed around the world like a valued commodity by whoever just so happened to come into contact with it.

Greek arts, philosophy, science, and political discourse were a true gift to the world. In this audiobook, you will explore the ancient Greeks, the Byzantine Empire, the Greek War of Independence, the Megali Idea, the military junta, and modern-day governance - this audiobook covers Greek history from start to finish.

In this audiobook, you will learn more about:

  • Ancient Greek mythology
  • The rise of Greek city-states and democracy

  • Alexander the Great and the Hellenistic era
  • Greco-Roman culture

Very great audiobook on the history of Greece. I wish this was around when I was in school doing history reports on different countries. It is very thorough but not overwhelming with information. Very easy to follow along. I love history and listen to these while I work. 10/10 would recommend if you just love history or Greece.

I really enjoyed this history of Greece. So much ground is covered, from ancient thru modern times. I like how they include blips of modern day events as examples or comparisons to something that happened in Greece's history. The narrator is pleasant to listen to. His inflection pulls you in, like you are having a great conversation.

Attention grabbing!

This seems to be a reasonably good overview of Greek history with what seemed to be just a few gaps. But I have to say that the narration was just not right. Perhaps it suits some folks, but the narrator had a sing song voice with various points of exaggerated emphasis, almost as if describing a children's story. It is particularly incongruous when narrating the descriptions of various tragedies and atrocities suffered by the Greeks over years. Mispronunciations were frequent. Unable to say conflagration, for instance. Occasionally the narrator would use the word Greek when he should be saying Greece, and vice versa. It was quite distracting., nonetheless, there was overall quite a lot of good information.

Fairly good history, poor and distracting narration.

I couldn't stand the annoying mannerisms of the narrator, and the way he mispronounced words. The content Ok but I found this very hard to finish.

Terrible narrator
