Rupi Kaur
Kaur constantly embraces growth, and in home body, she walks listeners through a reflective and intimate journey visiting the past, the present, and the potential of the self. home body is a collection of raw, honest conversations with oneself—reminding listeners to fill up on love, acceptance, community, family, and embrace change. Themes of nature and nurture, light and dark, rest here.
i dive into the well of my body
and end up in another world
everything i need
already exists in me
there’s no need
to look anywhere else

However, there was one snag in this book for me and that was the politics. Another reviewer pointed out that, to them, this book felt thrown together and not succinct. I got that vibe from the blatant political poems. All but maybe 1 or 2 didn’t feel in alignment with the other poems. And some were literal news headlines I’ve heard before. If that’s what Kaur wants to write about, I will gladly listen. But it needs to be her thoughts and in her voice, not the regurgitation of other people’s.
Vibrant and spectacular…minus the politics.
