It may seem odd to seek peace by moving to a war-torn African country, but for medical missionary Dr. Cynthia Myers, it provided a way to escape a shallow life of unearned wealth, a philandering fiancé, and a father now square in the public eye as vice president of the United States. At least here she knows her work and life have meaning. But all that is thrown into chaos when she fails to save the life of a local warlord's mortally wounded son.

As part of the Army Special Forces "A-Team" on a mission to capture and subdue the warlord, Captain Rick Norton is compelled to use deadly force to save Cynthia's life. Enraged at the violence she witnessed and riddled with guilt that men died because of her, Cynthia tries to hold on to her anger—but an unwanted attraction is taking hold.

With two members of his team badly injured and rebels in hot pursuit, Rick will have to draw upon all his strength and cunning to get her out alive . . . because he's beginning to think they just might overcome their differences and be able to make a life together.

I enjoyed both the story and the narrator. The characters are very different but learn to respect each other. Well, Cynthia learns how important it is to respect the choices of the man she loves. Most romantic suspense focuses on men changing their jobs to suit the woman, but that usually isn’t reality. Instead, this author comes up with a compromise that looks more like what would really happen. I like the way this book explains all that within a dramatized version of things that happen in real life. It is a great novel that has humor, daring rescues, and great character development all in one.

This book, as well as the others in the series, rate right at the top. The action, suspense, and romance will keep you on the edge of your seat. However, the spiritual messages are the kicker. Although I read 99% Christian fiction, I haven’t felt such a strong pull toward something the Lord was trying to teach me as I did with this book and the 2nd book of the series.

Must read!!!!

Well done story. Longer than I expected, but that’s because the action was first then the story line unfolded. Realities of surviving terror most will never experience, then deployment and finally inner heart exploration were all done very well by this author. I really had a hard time leaving this book and didn’t want it to end.
As an audible narration, it was superb. The narrator did an excellent job and made it come alive.

Not your typical military love story

Well Crafted Romance

Well written and believable portrayal of the complexities of romance in the modern world. Transitions from special forces doing their job in the jungle to the extreme contrast of life in political Washington DC to small town America were fun and entertaining. Great read!
