"Addiction, reinvention, and the chaos of toxic workplaces—all wrapped in biting wit and unpredictable turns... Sipos’s prose crackles with energy, packing more into a single sentence than some manage on an entire page."BookLife at Publishers Weekly

Fresh out of rehab and running from scandal, Jaycee Grayson didn’t come to play. A disgraced kids’ entertainment exec with no filter and nothing to lose, she’s landed in Littleburgh, Wisconsin—home to a beloved doll empire where nothing is at it seems. Not the town, not the missing empress behind the lucrative legend, and definitely not the two-faced Prairie Karens running the show.

Setting out to unravel the billion-dollar secret lurking behind a storybook facade, Jaycee rallies a band of fellow misfits: outcasts, dreamers, and the quietly unhinged. But torching a toxic fairytale might cost her something finally within reach—a true purpose, a real home, and a family weird enough to call her own.

With stiletto-sharp sarcasm and a story full of surprises, Horrible Women, Wonderful Girls is perfect for fans of Kristin Hannah’s Firefly Lane, Sirens on Netflix, and anyone who cheers for complicated women quietly breaking all the rules—while rewriting the whole story, loud and proud.

Narrated by Nadia Marshall (Nicole Demara in Zenless Zone Zero) with uncanny range—dialects, characters, villains, airheads, famous dead people, friendly backstabbers, village idiots, and triangulated lovers. Buckle in for a heartfelt, hilarious, and dysfunctional conference call in the heart of Middle America’s most passive-aggressive zip code.

Horrible Women, Wonderful Girls is one of those audiobooks that hooked me from the very beginning and kept me guessing where it was going to go next. Jaycee Grayson is such a messy, funny, and brutally honest character, you can’t help but root for her even when she’s making questionable choices. I loved how the story skewers small-town politics, toxic workplaces, and the weird world of dolls while still managing to be heartfelt and surprisingly moving.

Highly recommend

From the very first chapter, Horrible Women, Wonderful Girls had me hooked. Jaycee Grayson is raw, flawed, sarcastic, and impossible not to root for. On the heels of Hollywood scandal, she dives into the doll-obsessed world of Littleburgh, where secrets and lies fester beneath the surface of small-town charm. What follows is a whirlwind of workplace drama, reinvention, and deliciously sharp social satire.

I picked up Horrible Women, Wonderful Girls on a whim because I loved the snarky vibe of the description, and wow, did this audiobook deliver! Nadia Marshall’s narration is like a masterclass in bringing characters to life—she nails every voice, from Jaycee’s biting sarcasm to the sneaky, syrupy tones of those Prairie Karens. It’s like she’s channeling a whole dysfunctional small-town sitcom in your earbuds.

The story itself is a rollercoaster. Jaycee Grayson is such a messy, real protagonist—you root for her even when she’s making terrible choices. The way the book weaves sharp satire with genuinely moving moments about finding belonging had me laughing one minute and tearing up the next. Littleburgh feels so vivid, like I could drive there and spot those creepy dolls in a shop window. My only gripe is I wanted more backstory on some of the misfit crew, but maybe that’s coming in Book 2?

If you’re into stories about flawed women taking on the world with wit and grit, this is your jam. Perfect for fans of Firefly Lane or Dead to Me. I’m already counting down to the next installment!

A wild ride with heart and humor
