For four years, play-by-the-rules bank teller Turner Hastings has brooded over her uncle's wrongful imprisonment. But when two bumbling crooks stumble into her branch (barely disguised in Yoda and Sponge Bob masks) and hold up the place, she sees a chance to do something she's never thought possible: get revenge. She takes advantage of the melee to pull a heist of her own, seizing info from a security box that will exonerate her uncle.

Sent to investigate a bank robbery in small town Wisconsin, Special Agent John MacKinnon discovers the robbers were two not-quite-so-bright thugs and one woman. Now, Turner is on the run. With SA MacKinnon on her trail, she's breaking into the bank president Calvin's house, kidnapping his Great Dane, and for the first time in her life, setting out to break a few rules. But when Calvin hires a hit-man, MacKinnon will have to decide between his career--and saving Turner.

Critic reviews

"Fast paced and funny, this novel reads like Janet Evanovich crossed with The Sopranos. It's full of zany characters in a book-long car chase. Though bullets fly, snow falls and babies cry, you will be giggling as you cruise through the plot twists. It's a fun way to pass a rainy afternoon."—RT Book Reviews on For the Love of Pete
"Harper offers one fast-paced, funny, and sexy little romance."—Booklist on For the Love of Pete
"Elizabeth Hoyt's historicals are hot, and her contemporaries deserve the same label. This is a great novel."—Eloisa James, New York Times bestselling author, on For the Love of Pete

Elizabeth Hoyt is an auto-buy for me, but this was the first time I tried one of her contemporary romantic suspense novels written under her pen name Julia Harper. Wow! It was wonderful! I don't know why I waited so long. It was really suspenseful but believable. It used the two bank robbers as comic relief. It had Hoyt's signature lovable dog in it. It had quite an exciting climax at the end. In fact, it had a few climaxes in it. Hoyt writes wonderfully detailed characters, including her secondary characters.

I enjoyed Erin Bennett's narration. She narrated with feeling, performed the various voices well, and even did a great job imitating Squeaky, the dog.

I highly recommend this audiobook. The blurb does have a misleading detail in it, though. Without giving away a spoiler, her uncle is not imprisoned during the story. He was in the past.

Definitely Hot!

OK, I tried....I really tried to read the complete story, but early on, this was a COULD NOT COMPLETE!! Even though I recognized the fun, interesting characters Elizabeth Hoyt created and the funny moments were good, but I could not take the fact that that heroine and hero took so long to actually meet in person. I love Elizabeth Hoyt's story telling skills, but even though I love her as an author, I could not finish this book. On a positive note, the narrator, Erin Bennett was really good!

I REALLY TRIED

Story: 1 star, badly written. Trying to be funny but Not!
Relationship/heat: some heat, but not well written. Poor relationship development.
Performance: 3.5 stars fine, ok.
Overall: 2 stars at most. Not recommended, not worth a credit, not worth it on sale, not worth your time!

I am so sad to write this because I LOVE Elizabeth Hoyt's historicals ( and I am reading another one right now) They are creative, well written, intelligent and have interesting character development and story lines.

This book is not . It is shallow, the relationship development is poor, it attempts to be hot but ends up being forced, attempt to be funny but many of those moments end up silly. It attempts to have action but it is hard to follow, and it ends oddly. It is written almost in a juvenile manner.

The premise is interesting but the execution is just bad. I am so supervised it is the same author, enough said! I do not recommend Julia Harper. :-(

Can't believe it is the same author- Bad!
